The latest updates to Windows forces a driver update to the AMD R5 video cards installed in these devices. This causes the system to freeze every few seconds. I have confirmed that it is Windows 10 builds with newer AMD drivers. One of my systems that had older drivers worked fine until which over-wrote the old AMD drivers with the new ones and won't allow me to roll back.

Install the video card drivers - either via Windows Update or direct from AMD - and the freezing behaviour returns.

I'm not entirely sure if it's a Windows issue, or an AMD issue, but it needs to be fixed. It has made 3 PCs in my house unusable!

I can certainly download the program to prevent Windows from installing the device specific driver via Windows update in the future.

I can then uninstall the driver on the system - there is no rollback available - knowing it wont auto re-install. Thank you for your prompt response. There is a known issue between Windows 10 and AMD Radeon graphic cards and our team is already aware of this.

Unfortunately my error is entirely different to the one you linked to in your post. It relates to freezing as a result of the drivers, not an issue with multiple monitors. I then rebooted the computer. While this device is considered as being installed I don't get the machine freezing. This can manifest in many ways, and benchmarks don't always tell the whole story which is why my tests included a 97 percentile minimum fps. Most recently, I was testing The Crew 2a game with a hard 60fps framerate cap, and short, irregular frame dips—often referred to as microstutter —are definitely present. There are multiple potential causes for microstutter, with possible solutions that may or may not work.

But let's start by first explaining microstutter. Let me first explain that microstutter isn't the same as the stutter associated with low framerates, or in some cases massive dips in performance while a game loads new assets.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance had severe stuttering at launch, mostly due to loading new textures and models for a complex environment. Microstutter is more subtle and often harder to measure objectively —the best tools like Nvidia's FCAT involve color tagging of each frame received by a high-end capture card.

Blur Busters has a great webpage that can help you see microstutter in action. If you swap between the 'smooth' and 'microstutter' options, it's immediately obvious which one is better—and if you have a monitor with a high refresh rate, the test supports that as well. Microstutter most often occurs when the rate of new frames doesn't quite match up to your monitor's refresh rate and vsync is enabled. SLI and CrossFire are both seeing less support these days, however, so I'm going to focus on the most common culprit these days: vsync and framerate caps.

If it's not, the display shows the same frame as the previous update, giving you 30fps, and if a new frame is ready you get 60fps. Microstutter occurs when the framerate fluctuates just enough that you might average 60fps, but some frames come a bit early and others come a bit late, or in other words the frame pacing is just a bit off.

However, if there's a slight hiccup in the engine—a new texture needs to be loaded, or a new model, or maybe just some other background task—you can end up with a frame arriving 0.

Apparently back in there was a thread here in which Microsoft said they were "aware of the problem.

The lag immediately disappears if I uninstall and delete the AMD driver. I have tried doing a clean install of Windows - clearly this is not an issue with my computer but a compatibility issue. There is no way to contact Dell as my computer is no longer under warranty. I have contacted AMD who pointed the finger at Dell.

I have even run DDU in safe mode multiple times, and either let the computer reinstall them, or manually installed them myself. I'm not sure how to check the driver versions for chipset and BIOS I have scrolled through all the driver detail menus and tried to locate a driver on the Dell site but I have made sure, multiple times, that all of my drivers are up to date, both by using the systems assistant that Dell provides tailoring it to my own model and from within the Device manager.

So I just used the Auto-Detect Utility - it turns out that a new version of my driver A came out three days ago!

I was pretty excited. I downloaded and installed it and Yes I can pick which one I want, but it implies that I have the older drivers downloaded, and I'm not sure how I would do that where to find them, etc. If you search for a driver, sites don't tend to show you the older versions. So this is the only thing I haven't really tried because I wouldn't know where to start. I do have Support Assist and I use it quite a bit to make sure my drivers are up to date - that's how I know that the chipset and BIOS firmware drivers are all up to date.

As for rolling back the driver, I'm not sure what you mean. But none of these seem to be earlier versions of my current driver. HP Pavilion with Windows Jerky mouse pointer. Processor performance displays a 2 seconds regular shift in processor speed, saw-toothed form.

After much thinking I deduced that the two graphics controllers are fighting for control, which they should not do, but be governed by the graphics load. By disabling one or the other controller, the mouse and the rest behaved normally. I choose to keep M, presumably being the most powerful one.

But installing amd graphics driver makes my pc extremely slow. Even the cursor takes seconds to react to mouse movement. I faced this problem in a previous build of windows 10 and after the anniversary update its still doesn't work. I have tried clean install of windows 10 along with the driver. But nothing seems to work.Because stuttering is such a complex issue and AMD had such great knowledge into their drivers, AMD assumed that stuttering was occurring due to the applications and the OS, things that were out of their control. Since that time AMD has been hard at work on fixing the issue, producing new driver builds later last year and in the first part of this year to address the issue.

There is still work to do — AMD quickly fixed their DX9 issues, while DX10 fixes are in the process of being rolled out — but in many ways this is a post-mortem on the issue rather than being an explanation of what AMD will do in the future.

Not every game is fixed yet, but many are. The first is what happened at a technical level to cause the stuttering in the first place, and what, if anything, can be done about the remaining stuttering. The answer to the first question is that what went wrong depends on the game.

AMD did not go into specific detail about individual games, but they did lay out the types of issues they ran across. For example, resource limits may occur in the application or the driver, triggering a stall that in turn triggers stuttering.

Discarding the constant or vertex buffers too often was one such cause of this, as it would mean the driver would need to wait for one of the buffers to actually become freed up before the job could proceed.

Other times the issue was the driver itself misbehaving in a way AMD never expected. The end result was yet another block that triggers a stall that triggers stuttering. Yet still other problems are in the application and the OS itself. A recurring theme in all of these issues was that they were easy to fix. It may only take AMD an hour to find the cause of a stuttering instance, and then even less time to make a driver change to deal with it.

This is the purpose of the context queue, to help smooth things out at the cost of some latency. In a heartbeat situation the next Present gets delayed coming out of the application for whatever reason, which results in the rendering pipeline feeding from the context queue for a bit while nothing new comes in. Eventually the block is cleared and the application submits the next Present, at which point FRAPS records the Present as having come relatively later.

As a result the next Present hits the context queue sooner than average, resulting in the early frame as picked up by FRAPS.

In this scenario, at the end of the rendering pipeline every frame could be displayed at an even pace despite the unevenness at the input, but FRAPS would never know. But unless the heartbeat pattern occurs with high regularity or the size of the beat is enough to let the context queue drain completely, the impact from this scenario is far less than having the frames come out of the end of the rendering pipeline unevenly.

A few days ago, I updated the display driver on a newly built desktop via Windows update. Well, things start to go south right after the driver is installed. Everything is delayed with long pause lag up to 2 seconds.

First, we can mitigate the lag by turn on an old trick under the mouse properties setting. Hit Apply when you are done. The mouse and screen lag a few seconds every time there is a notification popping up from the action center. I have seen this mouse problem in general more often than I should. The reason it works is that although the mouse itself is handled by software, the trails are a holdover from many windows versions ago, are is done by the CPU itself, effectively disabling the software mouse.

When i power on my stereo, it in effect becomes a 3rd display device. Constant, regular 2 second mouse pointer pauses that are eliminated if I turn on mouse trails. The mouse wheel is unaffected; I can scroll a web page without pause.
